Jim Daggett is co-founder and executive director of the
Insurance Technology Association and publisher of ITA Pro
magazine. Periodically he checks in with the ITA membership
through the magazine to update members on various activities and plans for the organization. The first half of 2016 is an
important time for the ITA as the organization selects its ITA
Bridge Award winners and holds its second annual ITA LIVE
Conference from April 20-22, at the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.)
Marriott Harbor Beach Resort and Spa.
The second annual ITA LIVE conference is a little over two months away. What is the meaning
behind this year’s theme, Today/Tomorrow, and
what do you hope to accomplish at the conference this spring?
Daggett: This year’s theme clearly outlines our content for
the 2016 ITA LIVE conference—valuable case studies that are
being applied in the insurance industry today and innovative,
forward-thinking sessions to keep an eye on what the future has
Our objective with the theme of Today/Tomorrow is to have
ITA LIVE attendees come away from the conference with more
tools in their bag to apply to today’s business opportunities to
challenge their way of thinking, and to become more innovative
to ensure they will be working with a relevant business five to
10 years from now.
There are many conferences and events that
take place throughout the year, how and why
is ITA LIVE different than other events on the
insurance IT calendar?
Daggett: The difference is that the ITA is brokering a substantive dialogue for our attendees. We are trying to create an
environment at our event where the attendance is weighted
in favor of the insurers and limit vendor participation to our
sponsoring companies only. The vendors that are sponsors of
the event know the industry very well and are certainly thought
leaders and innovators in their respective domains.
You have selected Jag Randhawa to deliver the
keynote address. What can you tell us about his
background that makes his message important
to insurance IT and business leaders planning
Daggett: Jag Randha-
wa was selected as this
year’s keynote speaker
for several reasons. He
has authored a book on
which he has successfully
implemented at his own
company, he is an advisor
to venture capital com-
panies, and he is a CIO
of an insurance carrier
(CAMICO Mutual). Jag
can relate well to the
challenges many of us face
today in the business of
insurance. I believe he has
an excellent message to
impart to our attendees
on the shifting business
landscape and what it is going to take for them to become
leaders in the future. Jag also happens to be one of the kindest
people you will ever meet, I am honored that Jag will be our
keynote speaker this year.
You present the ITA Bridge Award at the ITA
LIVE conference. What is different about the
Bridge Award from other industry awards?
Daggett: The ITA Bridge Award is unique in that we are celebrating the successful collaboration and ongoing partnership between
both an IT and a business leader at one carrier organization. Additionally, the nominations are reviewed by the ITA Advisory Board,
which serves a judging panel of the nominees’ peers.
This issue marks the beginning of the third year
for ITA Pro magazine. In the last two years,
many B2B publications have disappeared or
gone strictly digital. What does the future look
like for the print version of this magazine?
Daggett: As long as there a demand for print from the ITA
membership community we will continue to produce ITA Pro
in that format. There are so many different channels of content
consumption available today and the goal of the ITA is to deliver on every preferred platform. ITA
